The People:
Creative Director
Hersh Jacob has worked in graphic
arts (Art Direction, textbook illustration, corporate logo design, cartooning)
and theatre (founder and Artistic Director of Toronto Studio Players Theatre School
Inc.) for almost 30 years. He has been involved in the digital medium as a designer
for print production since 1984. In 1994 he received Certification in Multi-Media
Production design and programming from the Digital Media Studio - University of
Toronto, Faculty of Architecture. Jacob was the designer/developer of the 1st
of the 'Illness Education' Series - DEPRESSION - now accepted by University of
Toronto Faculty of Medicine. He is the founder of IBID.
Technical Director
Alan Florence has worked in
information management, interface design, multimedia, hypertext and data processing
since 1980. His professional activities include consultant and educator in development
methodology, project leader, interface designer, database administrator, systems
analyst, and programmer analyst. He has developed applications in a variety of
domains including: Information Kiosks, Computer aided Instruction, Text search
and retrieval, Customer support, Project Change Management, Financial Securities,
and Database administration.
Artist
Andrew Danson is a part-time instructor at the BCCC in photography and digital imaging. He divides his work between fine-art, corporate / commercial, and editorial photography. Danson is best known for his black & white portraits which have appeared in 50 + exhibitions since the mid 1970's. Danson has produced 2 books, Unofficial Portraits, Canadian Politicians Photographed By Themselves, and Face / Kao, Portraits of Japanese Canadians Interned During WWII. The Face Kao, Portraits are on exhibit at the Royal Ontario Museum in the 5 Generations Show. The Face Kao Project has recently been purchased by The National Archives of Canada. Danson's photographs have appeared in the New York Times, Life, Macleans, Saturday Night, Equinox & Cdn. Geographic Magazines. His corporate clients include the Bank of Montreal, TD Bank, Canadian Tourism Commission, Apple Canada, and Newfoundland Tourism. Danson is the recipient of awards from the Canada Council, the Secretary of State, and the Tannenbaum Foundation.
Writer
Sheldon Oberman is a writer, storyteller, playwright and filmmaker with awards for both adult and children's writing. His works include "Julie Gerond and the Polka Dot Pony", "The Lion in the Lake", "TV Sal and the Game Show From Outer Space", "This Business with Elijah", "The Always Prayer Shawl" and "The White Stone in the Castle Wall".
Project Director
Ally Jacob has a B.S. in Speech
from Northwestern University, Evanston, IL. For 2 years, she was the Director
of Toronto Studio Players Theatre School. She created and ran the A.S.I.A. (After
School Integreted Arts) Program sponsored by the City of Toronto. With Toronto
Studio Players for 4 years, she functioned as a Director, Actor, and Designer
for numerous adult and childrenÕs productions. Currently, she is the mother of
2 small children and is pursuing the advocacy of Breastfeeding and Natural Childbirth
through the theatrical application of CD Rom technology.
Programmer / Web Designer
Darcy Christ has a Bachelor of
Arts, Liberal Arts (Philosophy/History of Mathematics and Ancient Sciences) from
St. JohnÕs College, Annapolis, MD. In 1996, he began an apprenticeship with Mental
Blocks under the guidance of Alan Florence, learning 'the way of the code warrior'.
With Mental Blocks, Darcy is presently working on an onLine operating manual for
a UNIX Monitoring System, as well as an onLine children's game. He is currently
developing the web site and workSpace for ibid. He
is learning Perl, Javascript and HTML. He works under the title ManBehindTheCurtain.
Photographer
Eli Mina is a photographer working with digital imaging. He has trained
and studied at Ryerson University, the Maine Photographic Workshop, Gallery 44,
Sheridan College, and countless workshops and seminars. He is a partner in MAS
Productions, a digital design and imaging studio, working in a collaborative
effort with other professionals to provide a variety of imaging solutions and
services to photographers, visual artists, art directors, and designers.
